New Port chain expands: 3 new marinas in 2010

Marinetek Group subsidiary, Marinetek Marinas, is swiftly expanding its New Port Marina chain by adding three new marinas in 2010. This supports the announcement made in February 2009 that it plans to build 15-20 marinas within five years in Scandinavian and Baltic countries at an invest- ment cost of up to 30 MEUR.

“I am happy to see things moving according to the original plans. We have a strong belief that there is an increasing demand for high quality, full service marinas here in northern Europe despite the short boating season,” says Ilkka Seppälä, Chairman of Marinetek Marinas.

“Most of the existing marinas in Scandinavia are very old and need urgent renovation. Furthermore, they cannot offer modern services for bigger boats and new boaters,” he continues. “Traditionally, most marinas have been owned and maintained by municipalities but this is changing as the use of decreasing tax funds is being reassessed. We are a reliable partner in this process.”

In addition to New Port Marinas in Espoo, Joutseno, Kotka and Padasjoki, by next summer the chain will also include New Port Marinas in Oulu, Helsinki and another one in Espoo.

New Port Virpiniemi is the most northern in the chain, located at the crossroads to all the major boating routes in the Bay of Bothnia. The university city of Oulu is only eight miles away and Kalix Harbour in Sweden just 65 miles away.
New Port Jollas is just 10 km from central Helsinki. This prime location has no depth or height restrictions and is therefore ideal for big sailing boats. The first phase is for 100 berths.
New Port Kalanokka is located on the border of the main cities of Finland, Espoo and Helsinki. It overlooks High Tech Centre and is next to New Port Keilalahti. Helsinki city centre and Tapiola Garden City are close by.

The New Port Marina concept offers demanding boat owners top quality, safe mooring in the most modern marinas. In 2010 seven New Port marinas will be open for business in different parts of Finland offering berths for boats ranging in length from 6 to 21 meters. The marinas offer finger mooring, electricity, water, pump-out and waste management services as well as Marinetek heavy duty pontoons, safety equipment and 24 hour security.
